Circuit Challenge Overview
SCFC Circuit Challenges
Each season, the South Coast Fencing Center hosts a series of friendly competitions in a variety of weapons and age groups. These tournaments are designed to give fencers excellent practice for USFA tournaments in a fun, positive environment. These are not USFA sanctioned events and USFA membership is not required in order to compete.
Points are awarded to fencers at each tournament and are published on our website. The overall points leader at the end of the season is the Season Champion and will be awarded a trophy. See below for how points are awarded.
We offer Circuit Challenges for the following categories:
Open Foil: Fencers must be at 13 years old as of January 1st of the current fencing season.
Youth Foil: Fencers must be 13 years or younger as of January 1st of the current fencing season.
All Ages Saber: Fencers of any age may compete in this Circuit.
All Ages Epee: Fencers of any age may compete in this Circuit.
Point Calculations
Points are determined by the following formula:
First place: Total points = size of event + 50% of total entries
Second place: Total points = size of event - 1 + 25% of total entries
Third place (tied): Total points = size of event - 2 + 10% of total entries
- there will be a tie for 3rd and no fence-off
Fifth and on: Total points = size of event - (final place - 1)
All fractions will be rounded up.
Example:
There are 30 fencers in an event
First place would receive 30 (size of event) + 15 (50% of entry size) = 45 points
Second place would receive 29 (size of event - 1) + 8 (25% of entry size, rounded up) = 37 points
Third place would receive 28 (size of event - 2) + 3 (10% of entry size) = 31
Fifth place would receive 26 (size of event - (final place -1)) = 26 points
Sixth place would receive 25 points
Seventh place would receive 24 points, and so on
